The Healthcare Accreditation Institute (Public Organization) (HAI) has officially received international accreditation for its HAI Primary Care Standards, 1st Edition from the International Society for Quality in Health Care External Evaluation Association (ISQua EEA), a globally recognized organization specializing in the assessment and accreditation of healthcare quality systems. This achievement reflects Thailand’s commitment to advancing the quality of primary healthcare services to internationally recognized standards.

Dr. Piyawan Limpanyalert, Chief Executive Officer of the Healthcare Accreditation Institute (HAI), revealed that HAI’s Primary Care Standards, 1st Edition has successfully achieved formal accreditation from ISQua EEA. The accreditation was approved during the meeting of the External Evaluation Award Committee (EEAC) on 19 May 2026. The accreditation will remain valid for four years, from May 2026 through May 2030.

“This achievement represents a significant milestone and a source of pride for Thailand’s healthcare system. At present, only four countries worldwide have primary healthcare standards accredited by ISQua EEA: Australia, Jordan, Egypt, and Thailand. Within the Asia-Pacific region and among members of the Asian Society for Quality in Health Care (ASQua), Thailand is now one of only two countries, alongside Australia, to have achieved this recognition.

This accomplishment demonstrates that Thailand’s primary care standards have been developed in alignment with internationally accepted principles and best practices. The development process was built upon collaboration among diverse stakeholders, including administrators, experts, and frontline healthcare practitioners from primary healthcare facilities under both the Ministry of Public Health and local administrative organizations. The standards were developed through the integration of academic evidence, stakeholder consultations, and systematic field testing.

HAI would like to express its sincere appreciation to all contributors and stakeholders whose dedication made this achievement possible. These standards not only serve as a validation of quality but also function as an essential tool to enable primary healthcare facilities, such as Health Promoting Hospitals, to deliver more effective, safer, and comprehensive services to the public. HAI remains committed to further strengthening healthcare quality and driving the sustainable development of Thailand’s healthcare system,” Dr. Piyawan stated.

The international accreditation of Thailand’s primary healthcare standards further reinforces HAI’s role as a key organization in advancing and promoting healthcare quality nationwide. It also strengthens public confidence that Thailand’s frontline healthcare system operates according to internationally recognized standards in a tangible and meaningful way.
