6th World Patient Safety Day and 8th Thailand Patient and Personnel Safety Day Held in Bangkok

On September 17, 2024, the Aswin Grand Convention Hotel in Bangkok hosted a momentous event celebrating both the 6th World Patient Safety Day and the 8th Thailand Patient and Personnel Safety Day. This year's theme, "Improving Diagnosis for Patient Safety," along with the theme "Get it Right, Make it Safe!" underscored the vital role of accurate and timely diagnoses in enhancing patient safety and healthcare outcomes.

The event was organized by the Healthcare Accreditation Institute, in collaboration with the Ministry of Public Health and 21 healthcare network partners. A total of 567 hospitals from across the country participated, reflecting a strong commitment to advancing patient and personnel safety in Thailand's healthcare system.


Activity Highlight

Opening Remarks & Address

Dr. Surachoke Tangwiwat, representing the Minister of Public Health, delivered the keynote address, focusing on the World Health Organization's message on "The Importance of Safety in Thailand's Healthcare System." During the ceremony, recognition was given to 42 hospitals that became members of the 3P Safety Project in 2024. These hospitals were invited to the Annual Certification Award Ceremony for meeting the HA Hospital Safety Standards.



Panel Discussion: "Improving Diagnosis for Patient Safety"

A panel discussion was held with five prominent speakers, including Dr Jos Vandelaer, WHO Representative to Thailand, and representatives from the Medical Council, Nursing Council, Dental Council, Medical Technology Council, and HAI. The discussion highlighted the crucial role of Thailand's professional councils in reducing diagnostic errors and enhancing patient safety. Emphasis was placed on the policies and measures needed to support healthcare professionals and institutions in ensuring safe practices and adhering to safety standards.



Session: Improving diagnosis for Patient Safety “Get it right, make it safe!”

Dr. Anuwat Supachutikul emphasized the concept of improving diagnosis with a focus on personal awareness to ensure accurate and safe diagnoses, while Dr. Yaowaluk Khomnuan, share the implementation of these practices in hospitals, and Dr. Piyawan Limpanyalert, emphasized the importance of healthcare system standards for quality and safety for patients.



Session: Share and Discussion on Quality & Safety Tool

This session reviewed a case study on diagnostic errors from a 4-Hospital Pilot Project in Chiang Mai, focusing on root cause analysis (RCA) using an RCA tool developed by HAI and international experts to address diagnostic errors and enhance patient safety.


2P Safety Technology Award 2024 and E-Poster Presentation

The 2P Safety Technology Award 2024 honored innovative solutions improving patient and personnel safety in hospitals. The E-Poster Presentation for the 3P Safety Hospital Project showcased the global and Thai safety movement, featuring data analysis from tools like NRLS, HSCS, PEP, and CQI standards. Additionally, innovations developed in collaboration with the NSTDA were highlighted, demonstrating advancements in healthcare safety practices.
